A Season of Change
As we enter October, I am excited because this month has always been one of my favorite months of the year. We move from the hot days of summer to the cool nights of autumn. The leaves begin to change. The days become shorter, and people settle into their fall schedule. In this time of change, our focus moves from picnics and beaches to football games, chicken Q, and fall festivals.
As October is a month of change in season, our church finds itself in a season of change as well. The pandemic has changed the way we do church. We’ve had to make adjustments along the way providing a viable online worship experience along with our in-person worship. Another change is the way we receive the pastor’s entry to the e-news. In order to reach a broader audience, we are moving this entry to the website. Another change has been to examine our purpose as a church and explore where we need to focus as we develop a disciple making culture. The ways of doing church in the past are no longer viable so we have to adapt to a changing season. We have to be willing to walk on this mysterious pathway of New Life knowing Jesus walks with us along the way.
As these changes happen, new opportunities are being presented to proclaim the word of God. Times of change can bring excitement, and it can bring anxiety. Change forces us to move from our comfort zone to our faithful zone. In other words, we have to place our faith and trust in God to move us forward as a congregation. We have to place our faith and trust in God to move us forward in our spiritual lives. Trust and faith are not always easy, but we can take comfort in the promise of our Lord Jesus Christ; “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:20b.
